In research it is known as an anti-inflammatory: it is studied mainly around inflammatory processes in the gut and the skin. What does KPV do?
In research, KPV is all about one thing: calming inflammation. It is a small tripeptide — lysine, proline and valine — that forms the tail end of the body's own hormone α-MSH, which has long been known for its anti-inflammatory side. KPV is thought to carry that side with it: it calms inflammatory signals and is therefore looked at mainly around the gut and the skin, where inflammation plays a big role. How does KPV work?
What is special about KPV is where it acts. Where many compounds work only on the outside of the cell, KPV is thought to enter the cell itself and slow the inflammatory machinery there — chiefly the NF-κB pathway, a central switch that drives the production of pro-inflammatory messengers (cytokines). KPV and the hormone α-MSH
KPV isn't a standalone find but a fragment of something larger: it is the C-terminal piece of α-MSH (alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone), hence the synonym name α-MSH(11-13). It is precisely that tail piece that carries the anti-inflammatory action in research, without the pigment and appetite effects you see with full α-MSH or with related peptides. In the literature KPV is therefore often described as "the anti-inflammatory part" of α-MSH. We supply it as a research-grade vial.
KPV in gut and skin inflammation
Two research areas keep coming up with KPV: the gut and the skin. In gut models the focus is on inflammatory diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, where KPV is taken up through the gut wall. In skin models it is about inflammation-related conditions and wound healing. In both cases the idea is the same: bring local inflammation down.
