What is CagriSema?
CagriSema is the name of a research combination of two metabolic peptides: cagrilintide and semaglutide. Cagrilintide is an amylin analogue, semaglutide is a GLP-1 agonist (the same substance that became clinically known as Ozempic and Wegovy). Novo Nordisk studies the two together under the name CagriSema, mainly around obesity and type 2 diabetes. The idea behind it is that two different satiety routes complement each other.
How does CagriSema work?
CagriSema combines two routes of action that act on different hormones. Semaglutide mimics the gut hormone GLP-1, which is linked to a feeling of fullness and slower gastric emptying. Cagrilintide mimics the hormone amylin, a second satiety route that GLP-1 substances do not use. It is thought that the two together give a stronger metabolic response in research than either one alone. What we know about this comes from the clinical studies of Novo Nordisk.
CagriSema research: REDEFINE and approval status
CagriSema was studied in the Phase 3 REDEFINE programme of Novo Nordisk. In those studies a substantial weight loss was seen, but the results fell short of the figures hoped for beforehand, an outcome that received a lot of attention in the press. At present (June 2026), CagriSema is not approved as a medicine anywhere: Novo Nordisk has filed for approval with the US FDA, while a European decision is still pending. It is therefore not available through the pharmacy. What is described in the studies and the medical literature can be found there.
CagriSema vs. Wegovy, Ozempic and tirzepatide
CagriSema is often compared with the well-known weight-loss medicines, but the difference is in the number of routes. Wegovy and Ozempic contain only semaglutide: a single GLP-1 route. CagriSema adds an amylin route with cagrilintide. Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) takes a different approach: it is one molecule that activates GLP-1 and GIP. In head-to-head studies, CagriSema fell just short of tirzepatide, which was widely discussed. Important difference: semaglutide and tirzepatide are approved medicines, CagriSema is not (yet). Why pre-mixed in one vial?
In CagriSema research, cagrilintide and semaglutide are studied as one combination, not as two separate injections. That is why GradePurity supplies them pre-mixed in one lyophilised vial: the ratio between the two components stays fixed and you do not have to mix it yourself in your research protocol. That saves handling steps and keeps run-to-run variation small. If you prefer to titrate the components separately, you can also order them individually, then you reconstitute each peptide on its own.
Side effects of CagriSema
In clinical research, the most commonly described side effects of CagriSema are gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting and constipation, mainly in the first weeks and when increasing the dose. The side-effect profile resembles that of other GLP-1-based substances. These are observations from studies in humans under medical supervision, not data that says anything about laboratory use. Reconstituting, storing and lab testing
CagriSema is supplied as a lyophilised powder in one vial with both peptides pre-mixed. For research it is mixed with bacteriostatic water; GradePurity gives no dosing or administration advice.
